You asked and we answered!
AECENL is running four Communities of Practice (CoPs) this year; one for Centre-Based Administrators, one for Family Child Care Providers, one for AECENL members, and once for ECEs.
The Administrators CoP and Family Child Care COP will take place parallel with one another each month. The ECE CoP and the ECE Voices of NL Members Only CoP will run from January to June 2026. CoPs will feature a mix of workshops and group discussions to support professional learning and connection. AECENL will be inviting guest speakers, providing professional learning resources, using breakout rooms for reflection on topics in small groups, and giving participants time to share their perspectives and experience.
Who can join?
If you are an Administrator, Licensee, or Owner of a regulated child care setting in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Administrators CoP is for you. If you are a regulated Family Child Care Provider, the Family Child Care CoP is for you. If you hold active AECENL membership, the ECE Voices of NL Members Only CoP is for you. If you are a practicing Early Childhood Educator in Newfoundland and Labrador, the ECE CoP is for you. CoPs are a safe and confidential place to reflect critically on important topics with a group of peers that bring diverse and valuable worldviews and background knowledge.

· Engage in reflective practice and critical inquiry.
· Share and gain knowledge from diverse perspectives.
· Work towards SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely), and focus on
improvements in daily practice.

· Gain professional learning hours towards CCS Certification renewal.
When and where will we meet?
The Administrators CoP and Family Child Care COP will take place parallel with one another each month. The ECE CoP and the ECE Voices of NL Members Only CoP will run from January to June 2026. online via Zoom. Meetings will typically last one hour, unless a workshop is being offered, in which case they may run 1.5-2 hours long.
Who will moderate?
AECENL’s PL Coordinator, Navigator, or an AECENL Board member will moderate the meetings and provide resources and topics for discussion. The various facilitators participating in the CoP will serve as the experts in their field, while the moderators will be there to guide conversation and reflection.

Upcoming Sessions:
Monday, February 16th, 2026, 7pm-8pm NT: Guidance, Creativity and Age-Responsive Practice
Join AECENL’s Professional Learning Coordinator, Sandy Gow, for a collaborative Community of Practice designed specifically for child care administrators across Newfoundland and Labrador. This 60-minute session creates space for leaders to reflect together on guidance strategies, process art, and the role of creativity in early learning environments.
Through guided discussion, participants will explore:
• Guidance strategies that work universally across age groups
• Approaches that shift based on developmental needs
• Process art activities that support creativity and engagement
• Ways to nurture our own creativity as educators and leaders
The session concludes with an open discussion period where administrators can bring forward current challenges, successes, or topics of interest. This CoP is a supportive, conversation‑driven space where administrators can learn from one another and strengthen their leadership practice.
As always, administrators do not have to attend all sessions to be a part of the Community of Practice. This session is not open to all ECEs in the province; it is indented specifically for administrators of centre-based programs.
How do we respond when tensions around tough topics arise? This workshop addresses why it’s important to critically engage with children, how to have conversations with families, and ways to engage with tough topics.
We will look at what it means to embrace the tensions in our educational settings and what can grow from engaging with said tensions.
This workshop will be delivered through our Administrators' Community of Practice, but all NL Certified ECEs are welcome to register.

Is attendance mandatory for each session?
No. We respect the busy schedules of practitioners and want this to be a helpful networking community to learn and grow from. We understand that not all participants will be available for all sessions; we hope to build a learning community that promotes a growth mindset and has value for participants in whatever capacity they are able to attend.
